In September, 2005, officers of the North Peninsula Building Association voted to sponsor a local green building program, Built Green® of Clallam County.  With that mandate, a committee of community members & local governmental representatives met to begin a collaboration with the purpose of developing advisory checklists to promote & aid builders & developers in healthy and resource efficient methods of creating homes.

Sheila Miller has been with the Clallam County Building Division for 18 years, with 12 of those years as an inspector.  She has extensive training and testing under the Washington State Energy and Indoor Air Quality Codes, & is recognized by International Code Council (ICC) as a certified Building Code Official, one of only 28 in Washington State, currently holding 11 certifications.

Sheila has gained respect for the dedication of  many people actively involved in the formation of the Built Green Clallam guidelines.  Homeowners with serious allergies or other health problems encouraged green building indoor air quality standards.  Sheila believes that as the demand increases for environmentally-friendly materials, the availability of supplies will also increase. The increased demand should reduce the costs, benefiting new homebuilder’s pocketbooks, as well as providing them a more natural home environment.
